Before the submission

There is a strange pause many artists fall into before sending work anywhere. Waiting for the “right moment”, the “final version”, the version that finally feels complete enough to be seen. It rarely arrives in the way we imagine. Most work is not ready in the sense we wish it was. It is only ready enough. And that threshold is usually lower, and more honest, than perfection suggests. What matters in a submission is not closure, but presence. The trace of a process that is still alive, still searching, still slightly unstable in a productive way. We don’t need a finished argument. We need a voice that is still speaking.
